Experiencing hair loss can take its toll on one’s confidence and pursuing hair loss treatments for hair loss can be a challenging endeavor.
With that said, you are not alone! Hair loss affects around 2% of the overall population.
At Delta Laser, located southeast of Greater Vancouver, we take a comprehensive and compassionate approach to all our patients experiencing this unique circumstance. Our medical staff is in this industry to help you achieve your best self, and that includes guiding you through a treatment plan that will get your self-confidence back!
In this article, we will touch on frequently asked questions: How does non-surgical hair restoration work? Is this treatment for me? And what does the procedure look like?
Let’s jump right into it!
The most prevalent and clinically tested non-surgical hair growth treatment is the use of your own Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP).
According to a study conducted by Drug Design, Development and Therapy, PRP has been discovered to hold strong anti-inflammatory properties for healing compromised tissue.
It suppresses cytokine release and decreases local tissue inflammation, which makes PRP potentially beneficial in treating inflammatory hair loss such as AA [Alopecia Areata].
During a PRP treatment for hair loss, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient. The blood is then processed to extract platelet-rich plasma, which is injected by our experienced physicians or nurses into the scalp in areas affected by hair loss or thinning.
The growth factors present in PRP help to nourish the hair follicles, stimulate their activity, and promote the growth of new, healthier hair.
Ideal candidates are those who have recently experienced hair loss, with mild to moderate thinning. During the consultation, we carefully evaluate the individual's hair condition to determine if they meet the criteria for an ideal candidate.
Some other common factors that can make someone a candidate for PRP hair restoration include:
Individuals with nonhormonal hair loss (Alopecia Areata) can be candidates for the treatment. This is applicable to everyone, regardless of gender.
A complimentary consultation with one of our medical aesthetic staff and doctor or nurse is an important first step. At this time, we will discuss your medical history, recent blood results, iron levels, and what type of hair loss condition it is you’re experiencing.
The appointment duration will be 45 minutes in total. During this time, we will capture photographs at each session to track your progress, and the actual injection process will take approximately 30 minutes.
To ensure your comfort throughout the procedure, we utilize a vibrator and laughing gas, which can help alleviate any discomfort you may experience. A series of 3 treatments within 6 months is suggested to start seeing visible results.
Aftercare is important for any treatment here at Delta Laser, and PRP for hair restoration is no different.
Do not wet your head for at least 72 hours, and no sweating. Book your appointment every 4-6 weeks. Make sure to get a good paraben-free shampoo such as Rogaine. Lastly, take multivitamins and eat mindfully.
